[Also in Division F2] An assembly comprises an article of manufacture having an elastomer layer bonded thereto by a heat activatable adhesive, the surface of the elastomer remote from the article having a layer of heat activatable structural adhesive to enable the assembly to be bonded to a brittle substrate with elastomer sandwiched between the article and the substrate, the elastomer being made of such material as will serve to cushion or diffuse the effects of shocks or vibrations to which the assembly may be subjected in use. The elastomer may be neoprene, a butadiene/acrylonitrile copolymer or a carboxylated butadiene/ acrylonitrile copolymer. The heat activated saturable adhesive may be a phenolic adhesive. The article of manufacture may be a fastening element.
