Abstract

Heading C2C. 2 - Chloro - 4,6 - bis - amino - s - triazines of the formula wherein R 1 and R 3 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, aralkyl, or cycloalkyl groups and R 2 and R 4 are alkyl, alkenyl, hydroxyalkyl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl groups, or R 1 and R 2 and/or R 3 and R 4 together with the nitrogen atom are 5- or 6-membered alkylen-imino radicals or the morpholino radical, are obtained (a) by reacting in a medium containing less than 10% by volume of water substantially equimolar amounts of primary or secondary amines and cyanuric chloride substantially completely dissolved in inert organic solvents in the presence of acid acceptors, and (b) by reacting the dichloro-s-triazines produced with the same or a different primary or secondary amine in the inert organic solvents in the presence of acid acceptors. The acid acceptor may be an inorganic alkaline substance, a non-reactive secondary or tertiary amine or it may be constituted by an excess of the reacting amine, and the organic solvent may be chlorobenzene, carbon tetrachlorid, methyl ethyl ketone, toluene or benzene. A continuous method of operation is described.
