Teaching rifie-shooting. - Consists of a dummy rifle having combined with it a target-practice device comprising a spring-retracted rod which is projected by a blow from the hammer to mark a target a short distance in front of the muzzle. In the construction shown, the rod 28, mounted in the barrel 15, is engaged at the rear by a dummy cartridge 51 containing a rod 52 which transmits the blow from the hammer 41. A magazine is provided for the dummy cartridges. The stock, including the butt 12, forestock 13, and barrel cover 14, may be moulded from plastic material, such as pulp, paper or fibre, which may be reinforced.
